Drumlough Hill – Phase 2
Situated in one of Irelands most northern locations the Drumlough Hill wind farm has some of the best and most consistent wind speeds in the county.
The project demanded a careful respect for the scenic Inishowen area of Donegal, much of which is protected by European legislation.Through careful consultation and compliance with all statutory obligations Ronan Renewables were able to bring the project forward in two phases. Phase one delivered 5 mega watts Phase two delivered 10 mega watts Total investment in the project to develop it was €17 million.
The location of the windfarm at Drumlough Hill, is just seven kilometres north of Buncrana, the main population center in the area. The power produced at Drumlough Hill is being generated by 12 state-of-the-art Spanish Gamesa wind-powered turbines. This brings the total output at the site to 15mw. The local community have already seen the contribution of the project to creating clean energy as well as local employment created through the maintenance and ongoing upkeep of the wind farm and the turbines.
Each turbine unit is 55 metres high, with the blade diameter of each unit measuring 52 metres. Each turbine has the capacity to produce 850kW of green electricity. Meanwhile, 14km of cable has been laid underground to connect the turbines to the national grid
